AMD 跟 Intel 已經在最近推出 dual core CPU 了.
原本我以為 Tom"s Hardware 會先丟出火拼報告的, 可是剛剛看到 這篇 , 已經有人先丟出來了...

報告裡面測試的 dual core CPU 分別是 AMD 的 Opteron 875 跟 Intel 的 Pentium Extreme Edition 840 .
我就不偷圖了, 直接貼這兩個 dual core CPU 的測試結果 :

看完之後我是沒什麼想法.
幾千幾萬在跳的 benchmark , 多個兩三百我們人也感覺不出來快在哪裡. :p

我比較好奇的是, 如果 Intel 還沒解決 Prescott 漏電 ( 產生高熱, 耗電量也很高 ) 的問題的話, 那兩個 Prescott 兜在一起的 CPU 產熱量到底是多少?

話說回來, 測試報告第二頁 的那張 die 的圖還真是漂亮. A_A

剛剛在 Solaris 那邊看到 public Boolean isFireFoxSecure() 這篇, 裡面提到 Firefox比IE安全？專家：風險相差無幾 這篇報導以及一些看法 ( 我就不引過來了, 不過我強烈推薦這篇文章就是了 ) .

因為我自己幾乎都用 Firefox , 而且我也都會看 Taiwan.CNET.com , 所以那篇報導我也看過. 其實 Windows XP 在安裝完 SP2 之後, IE 的安全性就提高了不少, 所以我完全贊同那篇報導的看法. 而我會用 Firefox 則是為了 tab browsing . :p

至於 Solaris 所提到的作業系統平台的看法, 我也有些想法要說.

其實我並不排斥微軟的作業系統, 但是當某台機器被定位成純粹要提供服務時, 我偏好選擇 BSD 或 Linux , 而且我不會想安裝 X-window . 道理很簡單, 就是 硬體資源的耗用能省則省 .

而且, 當軟體要調整參數或設定時, 我偏好 CLI 環境 , 也就是儘量不依靠其他工具, 自己手工打造設定檔 ( 所以 wise 他們都覺得我是偏好 CLI 的怪胎...=_= ) , 因為這樣可以瞭解這個軟體 ( 或是系統 ) 到底有多少參數設定可供調整, 不會被介面受限, 或是有參數被藏起來 ( 密技? :p ) .

所以, 我認為選擇作業系統的考量不應該是安全性, 而是在使用目的! 其實很早之前我就有在 BBS 上回過這種話 : 這世界上沒有絕對安全的系統, 只有確立系統安全的維護人員 .

另外, 我也很期待 Intel 的 EDB ( Execute Disable Bit ) 跟 AMD 的 NX ( Non-eXecute ) 能有一番作為. :p

製造商是 ECS (台灣的 精英 ? ) , 型號是 PF88 , 使用的北橋晶片是 SiS 656 , 南橋晶片是 SiS 965 , 板子上有 LGA775 插槽, 可以支援到 FSB 1066 MHz 的 Intel P4 EE :

對 AMD CPU 的支援方式則是靠一塊轉接卡 ( 看來好像是 PCI-E 的介面? O_O ), 支援 Socket 939 的 AMD CPU . 卡上有 SiS 756 作為北橋晶片 :

如果不知道該買 AMD 還是 Intel 時, 可以考慮考慮用這塊主機板.
不過嘛... SiS , 還真的得好好考慮考慮. O_O!!

我在 CNET News 看到 AMD advances its dual-core plans 這篇.

新的晶片研發代號叫 Toledo , 以 90 奈米製程製造, 使用 Socket 939 , 將會排進 Sempron / Athlon64 / Athlon FX 的產品線 .

CNET News 的報導部分內容如下 :

Advanced Micro Devices plans to release a dual-core processor for desktops in the second half of 2005, stepping up its schedule to better compete with Intel.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company has completed the design of a dual-core processor that will be sold as an Opteron chip for the server market and as an Athlon 64 chip for the desktop markets, said Barry Crume, a director in AMD"s Opteron division.

Intel 則是在 Itanium2 上面跑 dual-core , 看來又是一場大戰了.
